Algarve’s south coast it’s a forever sunny holidaymaker’s mecca with turquoise waters and golden sand beaches. And some very decent breaks, specially for beginners.
But for more exciting surfing opportunities, head west to stunning Sagres and north from there to Praia do Amado, Bordeira, Monte Clérigo e Arrifana, among others, all in Vicentina Coast natural park, a coastal strip between Odeceixe (North) and Burgau (South).
From Odeceixe to the north you enter Alentejo region. These region is known more for its beauty than for the surf spots. Some of the best are Malhão and Aivados (near Vila Nova de Milfontes), São Torpes (close to Sines) and the mesmerizing Praia da Galé (Fontainhas) part of the long stretched beach between Praia da Comporta and Praia de Melides.
